august 12-16, 2009
The 2009 Walnut Hill Farm Driving Competition is going to be exciting! We are looking forward to having the Commercial Division again this year. This division will feature a minimum of three classes limited to vehicles used for work, delivery, or in the trades. Drivers and horses will be asked to perform specific tasks as might have been seen with such a turnout in the 1890s. A coaching dog performance class where the entries are judged primarily on the performance and attitude of the dog will be held probably on Ascot Picnic Night. Any breed of dog will be allowed and any style of horse/pony turnout will be permitted. This class will be a lot of fun and is a crowd favorite!
We are pleased to announce that the 2009 Walnut Hill Farm Driving Compeition judge's panel will consist of Ms. Joanne Bellion-Provenski of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; Ms. Karen Homer-Brown from Georgetown, Kentucky; and Ms. Mary Alice Matheson joining us from Marshall, Virginia. We are honored to have Dr. Phil Fero from Jamestown, New York serving as technical delegate for the 2009 competition.
We are pleased to welcome back the Fort Sill, Oklahoma's Field Artillery Half Section, the Army's last horse drawn artillery unit. Another special exhibition is the Kateland Farm Miniature Horse Drill Team.
Friday evening the 14th will be the Ascot Picnic Night. Step into the world of My Fair Lady while you cheer on your favorites, enjoy a gourmet picnic supper, and be thrilled by the romance of it all.
The Pittsford Fireman’s Band will again be joining us on Friday evening to entertain us during Ascot Night. On Sunday morning at 11:30 AM the Rochester Scottish Pipe Band will be performing. These groups are always a delightful treat for spectators and competitors alike.
